Why Your Meta Ads Are Not Converting (And How to Fix It)

Every week I talk to a founder who is spending ₦50,000 or more on Meta ads and getting nothing back. The frustration is real. But before you blame Meta's algorithm, let me tell you something — in 90% of cases, the algorithm is doing exactly what you told it to do. The problem is what you told it.
The Three Real Reasons Meta Ads Fail
1. Your hook is not strong enough. You have 1.7 seconds to stop the scroll. If your first frame does not make someone pause, nothing else matters. The best hooks are specific, slightly uncomfortable, and speak directly to a real pain. "Are you wasting money on Meta ads?" is better than "Grow your business with us."
2. Your offer is not compelling. An ad is a door. Your offer is what is behind it. If what you are selling requires too much trust too fast, or the value is unclear, people leave. The best-converting offer I ever built included free delivery, free bonus product, and payment on delivery. We reduced the risk to zero and conversions tripled.
3. You are targeting the wrong people. Broad targeting works when your creative is strong. Narrow targeting works when your offer is specific. The mistake is using narrow targeting with a generic offer — you get a small, qualified audience and then bore them with something that does not resonate.
How to Diagnose Your Campaign
Pull your ad data and check three numbers: hook rate (percentage of people who watched past 3 seconds), click-through rate, and cost per result. If hook rate is below 25%, fix the creative. If CTR is below 1%, fix the offer or the audience. If cost per result is too high but hook and CTR are fine, fix the landing page.
Start there. Most of the time, the algorithm is not your problem.
